Self Improvement Books to Read

1. 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey

If you’re looking for self improvement books to read this one should be at the top of your list.  I read this book back in college, and I like to turn back to it and reread it for a good reminder every now and then.

It outlines 7 habits that, if incorporated into your daily life, can help you become more successful. It’s a great reminder that small habits can lead to big change in your life.

2. Atomic Habits by James Clear

Another book about habits, yes. But it offers a fresh new perspective on habits and also guides you through breaking the bad habits! James Clear outlines a habit-building framework that can help you achieve your goals, no matter what they are.

Thriller / Suspense Books to Read

3. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

If you’re looking for suspense books to read, I highly recommend anything by Liane Moriarty.

Liane Moriarty is one of my favorite authors because she writes suspense so well. You have probably heard of Big Little Lies from the HBO show based off of this book. This story combines murder, romance, and comedy in an expert way that will make you not want to put this book down.

4. Room by Emma Donoghue

Told from the perspective of Jack, a five year old boy, this story is about a mother and son who have been held captive in a singular room by a man who kidnapped the mother years prior. This room is all Jack knows and to him, it’s his entire world. In order to save their lives, the mother devises a plan to set them free.

5. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

On the night of their wedding anniversary, Amy disappears and Nick suddenly becomes the suspect in her disappearance. Did he do it? Where is Amy? I don’t want to give anything else away, but this book does a great job at leaving you in suspense and pulling you in.

6. 9 Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty

If you like Big Little Lies, you’ll love 9 Perfect Strangers as well. It follows nine people who arrive at a popular health resort, all hoping to fix a unique personal problem. But they don’t realize how much their lives are about to change. Offering a diverse variety of characters and perspectives, it will leave you wanting more.

Reality Books to Read

7. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling

If you’re looking for some reality books to read, I don’t blame you.  I find them so fun!

If you love binge watching The Office, you will love this book from one of the writers of the show, Mindy Kaling. She not only gives a behind the scenes look during her time on The Office, but she also provides funny stories from times throughout her whole life. She provides a fresh perspective with an empowering tone.

8. I’ll Be There For You by Kelsey Miller

For all of you Friends fans who are still not over the fact that it’s no longer on Netflix this is the one for you! This book does a deep dive into the show, the stories behind it, and the factors that led to it becoming one of the most popular shows in history.

9. Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham

To all you fellow Gilmore Girls fans out there, this will be a comforting and funny book. Lauren Graham reflects on her time on Gilmore Girls, both on the original series and the Netflix reboot. And of course, she touches on other moments from her acting career including first auditions and Parenthood.

Romantic Comedy Books to Read

12. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Crazy Rich Asians is a great romantic comedy that will also provide a unique, albeit satirical, perspective on culture and family. In this book, Rachel Chu returns to her boyfriend’s hometown in Singapore for his best friend’s wedding. She is surprised to find out that his family is not just rich – they are crazy rich. Rachel now needs to navigate this new society and his family, while still figuring things out in her own life.
