1. Morning coffee

I don’t know about you guys, but I look forward to my morning coffee everyday. It wakes me up, but also gives me a few minutes of the morning when I can quietly relax before starting my day.

A Keurig is great because you can easily make a single serving of coffee. No one else in my household drinks coffee, so brewing a whole pot every day would leave a lot of coffee to waste.

I also try to stick to only one cup a day, so the Keurig helps me do that.

As great as the Keurig is, disposable K-cups can be really destructive to the environment. Using this reusable K-cup eliminates all of that waste so you can enjoy your coffee without any guilt!

How to recreate the kitchen counter above:

Prefer to let someone else make your coffee? Bring a reusable coffee mug with you when you hit your favorite local coffee shop. This Yeti will keep your coffee warm for hours, so it won’t go cold before you make it to work.

And as a bonus – no disposable cup or straws going to waste after you finish that morning brew.

2. Recycle and thrift clothes

Want to treat yourself to a new outfit? Do it! A great way to do this in a more sustainable way is to check out a local thrift store.

Even better, you can sell your old clothes you don’t wear any more at cash-on-the-spot consignment stores like Plato’s Closet or Clothes Mentor.

Then while you’re at the store, you can spend the money you got for your old clothes on treating yourself to something new!

Supporting places that recycle clothing is a great way to both treat yourself and treat the environment.

3. Buy local when you can

A great way to treat yourself and support your local economy is to buy products locally! You may even discover a product you love that you otherwise wouldn’t have tried.

For example, my favorite body exfoliant actually comes from a local, small business.

Browse small boutiques nearby, hit up a local farmer’s market, or check out your supermarket’s “local” section. You might be surprised by what great stuff you can by.

4. Buy products that contribute to charity

A great way to care for yourself in a way you can feel good about is purchasing products through brands that are socially responsible and generous.

Products that give a portion of sales to a charitable cause are great ways to engage in some self care sustainably.

I always feel good about buying these Josie Maran makeup wipes – not only because they do an awesome job removing my makeup – but because the brand contributes a portion of all sales to the NRDC’s Polar Bear SOS initiative.

5. Take a reusable bag when you go shopping

Bringing a reusable bag when you shop is a great way to care for the environment while you treat yourself. Eliminate the waste of an extra bag every time you go shopping.

As an added bonus, a lot of grocery stores today will give you a small discount for every reusable bag you bring with you.

Bring a reusable bag with you when you shop for clothes and skin care, too!

6. Rent an outfit

Have a big event coming up? Rather than buying a dress that you’ll wear once and then forget about for years, try Rent the Runway!

You can rent designer dresses and accessories without having to make the investment purchase yourself.

7. Cruelty-free skin treatment

Treating yourself to a facial at a local spa or giving yourself a pampered day at home is a great way to indulge in some self care.

You can call the spa ahead of time and ask if they use cruelty-free products.

If not, you can also usually bring your own products to a facial. Or, save the money and have a mini spa day at home and use your own products there!

I got a facial treatment for the first time recently at Massage Envy, and they had a variety of cruelty-free products that they used during my treatment. If you have a Massage Envy near you, I would definitely recommend it!

8. Farm to table night out

Looking to indulge in some delicious food after a long week? Girl, same.

Choosing a farm to table restaurant not only helps you support local and sustainable farming, but in my experience farm to table food is SO delicious.

It’s likely fresher and more natural than what you’ll find when hitting up a national chain.

Those are the 8 sustainable self care ideas to treat yourself and feel good about it.

You work hard so YOU DESERVE SELF CARE. I hope these eight ideas inspire you to treat yourself with zero guilt.
