There are numerous benefits to establishing a daily nighttime skin care routine.

Not only will it nourish and hydrate skin, you’ll feel look and feel better. An effective skin care routine can also reduce acne, prevent aging, and ensure you’re always feeling your best.

This post is going to walk you through a step by step skin nighttime care routine that will make your face feel smooth and hydrated.

You will learn what types of products to use and what order to apply them in order to see the greatest results.

This particular routine is best for nighttime so the products can absorb into your skin overnight.

As a note, all of the products I recommend are cruelty-free, so you can feel good about supporting these brands! I have personally used all of these products and believe in their effectiveness.

1. Remove makeup

If you do only one step of this entire routine each night, do this first step – removing your makeup.

Sleeping with makeup on leaves your skin at risk for acne, rashes, and a dull complexion. It traps all of the contaminants of the day on your skin while you sleep and can also speed up the aging process of your skin.

If you aren’t wearing any makeup, go ahead and skip this step, starting with step 2.

2. Cleanse

Once you’ve removed your makeup, the next step in this nighttime skin care routine is to cleanse your face. I recommend a gentle cleanser so it won’t irritate your skin.

Apply this First Aid Beauty Cleanser with warm water for fresh, cleansed skin!

3. Exfoliate (Once or twice a week)

This step is to only be done 1-3 times per week, not every day…but it’s an important step. Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells from your face and prepares the skin to better absorb moisture.

Without exfoliation, the products you’re putting on your face in the following steps won’t be as effective.

This exfoliating face wash from St. Ives is both effective and smells great. Additionally, it’s gentle so it will do the job in removing dead skin, but won’t irritate your skin.

4. Toner

Toner will remove any remaining dirt, contaminants, or traces of makeup the previous steps missed. It can also help balance the pH levels of your skin and reduce acne.

Similar to exfoliation, this step prepares your skin to absorb the products your going to apply in the next steps.

5. Serum

A lot of people don’t know what a serum is or when to apply it, so it’s an easy product to skip, especially if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on skin care. But, a good serum is definitely worth the investment.

Serum is essentially concentrated hydration and nutrients for your skin. You only need a small amount of product each night, but it packs a big punch.

In terms of when to apply it, it will be most effective after you apply toner and before eye cream and moisturizer. When in doubt, apply products from thinnest to heaviest.

6. Eye cream

Up next is eye cream, a crucial step in slowing down the aging process of your skin in addition to numerous other benefits.

Eye cream can aid in lessening the appearance of dark circles as well as reducing inflammation and puffiness. Eye cream also prevents wrinkles and aging.

7. Spot treatment (only if needed)

This step is optional, so if you don’t have any acne spots at the moment go ahead and skip it. However, if you do have acne spots, this spot treatment is really effective.

8. Moisturizer

9. Oils
