Everyone gives and receives love differently. And I’m not just talking about relationships…I’m talking about self love, too! Your love language can also translate into a self care love language and can guide which self love activities will be most effective for you.

This post is going to give you 25 self care ideas for every self care love language to find the best form of self care for you. Discover which of the self care love languages resonates with you to engage in personal care activities that will be perfect for you.

To feel loved in a relationship, maybe you want to hear “I love you” or have your partner take out the trash to show they care…it’s different for everyone.

What are love languages?

In short, your love language is the way that you receive love the best.

This concept was created and researched by Dr. Gary Chapman, an experienced marriage counselor.

And it totally makes sense – if we all have different personalities and life experiences, different things will make us feel loved.

There are five love languages: Words of affirmation, physical touch, quality time, gifts, and acts of service.

Everyone has at least one of these that they prefer when it comes to receiving love.

And although everyone has a preference, every love language is equal so there isn’t one that’s better than another.

Words of Affirmation

Words mean a lot to you and you feel love through words. Compliments and affirmations can go a long way for you, and in turn negative words can cut deeper than it might for others.

Physical Touch

This love language means that you value physical touch and want to feel love both emotionally and physically. A reassuring touch or holding hands can really help you feel connected to your partner.

Quality Time

If quality time is your love language, that means you really value having someone’s undivided attention and spending meaningful time together. Turning off your phone and eliminating distractions goes a long way with you.

Receiving Gifts

Now if receiving gifts is your love language, it does not mean you are materialistic. It just means you feel loved and appreciated when someone gives you a thoughtful and meaningfull gift.

Acts of Service

If you receive love through acts of service, than actions speak louder than words. You really value when other people do something for you like doing the laundry or cooking a meal.

Words of Affirmation

When thinking of words of affirmation in the context of self care love languages, reflect on your thoughts and internal dialogue with yourself. What helps you feel confident and happy in your own skin?

1. Daily affirmations

Positive self affirmations can help you improve your outlook on life, reduce stress, and find confidence.

A clean living space will help you have a clear mind. Whether it’s doing the dishes, making your bed, wiping down the kitchen counters…draw your attention to the areas of your home that make you feel overwhelmed and do something to fix it.

8. Take something off your to-do list

Sometimes self care means saying no! While we seem to place so much positive emphasis on “being busy” and filling your schedule with tons of accomplishments that is not always a good philosophy for your mental health.

By taking something off of your existing to-do list, you will free up time to relax and enjoy more self care.

While take out and microwave meals are easy, there’s something very special about a home cooked meal. By putting time and care into preparing a meal for yourself, it will feel all that much better to enjoy your tasty dish once it’s complete.

Physical Touch

Physical touch in the context of self care love languages means that you appreciate self love activities that are physically involved from a relaxing massage to the feeling of comfortable pajamas on your skin.

11. Get a massage

If you value physical touch, a massage might be just what you need. Relax and unwind at the spa with a massage that will help your muscles relax.
