Whether you’re a homebody who loves to stay home and decompress or you’re always on the go, you deserve to relax when you spend time at home.
Especially during times when you may be working from home, it’s important to find ways to separate your mind from work at the end of the day and create a calming environment so you can feel relaxed at home.
This post is going to help you learn 14 ways to relax at home.
1. Light some candles
Candles are an easy way to make your home feel more relaxing. Pick a scent that you find calming. Lavender and vanilla are naturally calming scents, so if you’re looking to relax you can’t go wrong with one of those.
Mix up the candles and choose something related to the season, for example during December break out the pine tree and gingerbread candles or in the Spring choose floral scents or fresh linen.
2. Use a weighted blanket
A weighted blanket can be really soothing, especially if you are experiencing anxiety. I recently got this one, and I love it! It is really calming and comforting to use.
When selecting the right blanket for you, it is recommended that you choose a weight that is about 10% of your body weight. Anything heavier may be too much.

3. Wear some fuzzy socks
Never underestimate the power of being comfy! Fuzzy socks are an easy way to instantly feel cozier and ready to sit back and relax.
Especially if you are on your feet a lot during the day, you want to treat them right during your relaxation time.
4. Use noise cancelling headphones
Noise cancelling headphones are a great way to relax at home. If you have noisy neighbors, roommates, or you just want to block out the rest of the world and chill, these will do wonders for you.
Listen to music, a podcast, or an audio book and just get lost in what you are listening to by blocking out any other distractions.
In addition to their high end sound quality, these Beats headphones are also really comfortable to wear, so they won’t irritate your ears when you wear them for long periods of time.
5. Read a good book
We are on technology all day long whether it’s for work, after work when we watch TV, or on our phones to text friends and scroll through social media.
Give your eyes and mind a break from the constant influx of information and technology and read a good book.
When I’m just trying to relax or distract my mind, I love to read something with a plot that just sucks me in.
I recently finished Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty, the author of Big Little Lies. This book was so good you guys I couldn’t put it down!
6. Display a digital picture frame
Surrounding yourself with memories of loved ones will make your living space feel homier and more comforting.
Add one of these digital picture frames in to your home You’ll smile and feel more relaxed every time you see pictures of fun memories with friends, family, significant others, etc.
7. Choose the right lighting
Give yourself a relaxing oasis with these twinkle lights. They turn any space into calmer environment with soft lighting as opposed to a harsh fluorescent light.
As an added bonus they make your space look so cute! Hang them up using these small command hooks so you won’t destroy your walls in the process.
8. Get comfy pillows
Get proper back support with this memory foam pillow. As an extra tip, choosing something with a neutral or relaxing color palette will also help you achieve a calming environment. Try colors like gray, cream, light blue, or light green.
Harsh or vibrant colors can over stimulate the mind and add to feelings of being overwhelmed.
9. Organize your space
A cluttered space will lead to a cluttered, overwhelmed mind. It’s hard to relax on the couch when all you see is clutter and mess surrounding you.
Feel more at peace with everything tucked away into its own spot. Your space will look clean and chic with these baskets, and now you’ll know where to find everything!
10. Add some plants
Having plants in your home will supplement oxygen and contribute to a higher quality living environment.
Worried about caring for a plant? Get a cactus because they are low maintenance and won’t require much care or stress to keep it alive.
11. Decorate with an area rug
An area rug can soften your surroundings and add a decorative focal point to your room. Feel the soft rug beneath your feet instead of a cold, hard floor.
Again, a neutral or calming color palette here is really key. Look for colors like gray, cream, light blue, or light gray. Choose a pattern or design that is pleasing to your eye and a texture that feels soft and comforting.
12. Have a spa night
