When you establish a self care beauty routine you can’t forget your hair! We all know that feeling of waking up and having an amazing hair day, right? Why let those go few and far between…Use these hair care tips for growth and naturally healthy hair.
This post is going to give you 9 hair care tips for growth and healthy hair.
1. Rinse with cold water in the shower
The first hair care tip for growth might surprise you – rinse with cold water in the shower.
Blasting your hair with hot water in the shower can do a lot of damage. I get it, you don’t want to freeze in your nice, relaxing shower so it’s tempting to turn up the heat. Try using lukewarm water as you shampoo and condition and then turn up the warmth when you wash the rest of your body.
I also recommend rinsing your hair with cold water for a few seconds right at the end of your shower. It will leave your hair feeling sooo smooth and silky, trust me!
2. Use a quality shampoo and conditioner
One of the most important hair care tips for growth is using a quality shampoo and conditioner.
Ihighly recommend Bumble and Bumble’s Surf shampoo and conditioner. Not only is Bumble and Bumble a great, cruelty-free hair care brand, but this shampoo and conditioner will give your hair a natural, beachy wave that looks beautiful when it air dries.
Another bonus to this shampoo and conditioner is that they are safe to use on colored hair, so if – like me – your tresses aren’t 100% their natural shade, then you are good to go with this set.
3. Limit how often you wash your hair
Overwashing your hair by shampooing every day can cause your scalp to dry out. For healthy hair, try to shampoo only every other day, or less if your hair doesn’t get too greasy.
If you find your hair getting greasy between washes, try styling it in a different way or using this dry shampoo to make your hair last longer between washes. Not only is this dry shampoo cruelty-free and really effective, it also includes vitamins that nourish your hair and doesn’t leave a white residue after you apply it.
4. Condition the right way
When you apply conditioner, don’t apply it directly to your scalp. This can lead to greasy hair. Apply the conditioner a few inches below your scalp, really focusing on your ends the most.
Conditioner also works best if you leave it sit for a few minutes rather than rinsing it out as soon as you apply it. Put your conditioner on, then shave your legs or do something else while you wait for it to absorb into your hair.
5. Dry your hair with an old t-shirt
When your hair is wet, it becomes fragile and more prone to breakage. The fibers of a bath towel can be pretty harsh on wet hair.
To combat this, try drying your hair with an old t-shirt instead. It will be much softer on those tresses of yours.
6. Use a wide tooth-comb
Again, since your hair will be fragile when wet, try to avoid brushing right after you get out of the shower. To style or part your hair when it’s still wet, use a wide-tooth comb and gently run it through your head. A comb like this one will be much gentler on your hair than a brush.
7. Avoid heat when you can…
Heat can cause a lot of damage to your hair, so avoid it where you can. Try to find alternative ways to style your hair so that you won’t need to use a straightener or curling iron every day. You can also consider showering at night or at a time when letting your hair air dry is a feasible option.
If you do need to apply heat, always remember to use a heat protectant first. I really recommend the one below because it does a great job protecting your hair and makes it feel nice and smooth.
8. Hair mask
Moisturizing isn’t just for your skin! The next time you break out your favorite face mask for Self Care Sunday, try a hair mask, too. I recommend this hair mask from Oribe because it leaves your hair feeling so soft and shiny. It’s also vegan, cruelty-free, and safe for colored hair.
9. Listen to your hair
The last hair care tip is to listen to your hair. If you notice your hair is looking unhealthy, try changing something up. For a dry scalp, try a hair mask or shampooing less. If you’re finding that your hair is looking a little thin, try to reduce breakage or switch up the shampoo.
The best way you can maintain health is through listening to your body, and your hair is no different!
Those are the 9 hair care tips for healthy locks.
